The Challenge: Thinning Hair at the Crown

Male client was experiencing noticeable hair loss at the top of his crown, leaving areas of his scalp visible through his existing hair. He wanted a natural-looking solution to improve the appearance of hair density without undergoing hair transplant surgery.

The Solution: Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

At 3D Scalp in Draper, Utah, we performed a customized scalp micropigmentation treatment focused on the thinning crown area. Using precise pigment impressions that replicate the appearance of natural hair follicles, we worked to reduce the contrast between his scalp and existing hair.

The Results: Fuller-Looking Hair, Natural Appearance

The treatment created the appearance of increased follicle density across the crown, helping the thinning area blend more naturally with his surrounding hair.

Key Treatment Benefits

  • Improved Hair Density: Created the illusion of thicker, fuller hair at the crown.

  • Natural Follicle Appearance: SMP impressions designed to resemble real hair follicles.

  • Non-Surgical Solution: Enhanced the appearance of thinning hair without hair transplant surgery.

The Challenge: Thinning Crown & Receding Hairline

Side-by-side comparison of a man's scalp before and after a hair transplant; the before image shows a bald head with a marked area for the procedure, and the after image shows a full, evenly covered scalp with a neat hairstyle.

Client was experiencing noticeable thinning across the top and crown of his scalp, along with reduced density through the front hairline. He wanted a natural-looking solution that would give his shaved hairstyle a fuller, more consistent appearance without undergoing hair transplant surgery.

The Solution: Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) for Hair Density & Hairline Restoration

At 3D Scalp in Draper, Utah, we created a customized scalp micropigmentation (SMP) treatment designed to increase the appearance of hair density across the crown and restore definition to the front hairline.

Using thousands of tiny pigment impressions designed to replicate natural shaved hair follicles, we gradually blended the thinner areas into clients existing hair. Special attention was given to the front hairline to create a clean, natural transition that complemented his facial features and existing hair pattern.

The Results: Fuller Crown & Natural-Looking Hairline

The completed SMP treatment significantly reduced the visible contrast between Raffa’s scalp and existing hair. The top and crown now have the appearance of greater follicle density, while the restored front hairline creates a fuller, more balanced shaved-head look.

Key Treatment Benefits

  • Increased Crown Density: Added the appearance of hair follicles throughout thinning areas on the top and crown.

  • Hairline Restoration: Created a natural-looking, defined front hairline.

  • Seamless Blending: SMP was matched and blended with Raffa’s existing shaved hair.

  • Fuller Appearance: Reduced visible scalp and created the look of more consistent hair density.

The Challenge: Faded SMP & Visible Hair Transplant Scar

Comparison of a bald person's scalp showing before and after hair transplant, with marked areas on the scalp in the before image and a fuller, evenly covered scalp in the after image.

This client had previous scalp micropigmentation performed by another artist across the top and crown of his scalp. Over time, the original SMP had faded and lost definition, leaving the follicle impressions looking lighter and less dense. He also had a visible hair transplant scar across the back of his scalp that he wanted blended into the surrounding shaved hair.

The Solution: SMP Correction, Added Density & Scar Camouflage

At 3D Scalp in Draper, Utah, we performed a customized SMP correction and density restoration treatment. We added new scalp micropigmentation impressions throughout the top and crown to sharpen the appearance of individual hair follicles and create a fuller, more consistent density.

We also extended and blended the SMP down toward the lower back hairline so the treatment transitioned naturally into the surrounding shaved hair. Special attention was given to the existing hair transplant scar, where carefully placed pigment impressions were used to reduce the contrast between the scar tissue and surrounding scalp.

The Results: Restored Density & Nearly Invisible Scar

The refreshed SMP created a more defined and natural-looking follicle pattern across the top and crown while improving the overall consistency of the shaved-head appearance. The lower hairline blended more smoothly, and the previous hair transplant scar became significantly less noticeable.

Key Treatment Benefits

  • SMP Correction: Refreshed and improved older, faded scalp micropigmentation.

  • Increased Hair Density: Added more defined follicle impressions throughout the top and crown.

  • Natural Blending: Extended SMP into the lower hairline for a smoother transition.

  • Hair Transplant Scar Camouflage: Reduced the visibility of the existing transplant scar.

  • Non-Surgical Restoration: Improved the appearance of previous SMP and scalp scarring without additional surgery.

The Challenge: Woman’s Hair Loss

Comparison of a woman's scalp before and after hair restoration treatment showing increased hair density.

Woman experiencing noticeable thinning through the top and crown of her scalp. Because her hair was longer, the thinning created visible areas of scalp between the existing hair, making the hair appear less dense overall.

Female hair loss clients wanting a natural-looking solution that would help reduce the contrast between her scalp and hair without changing her hairstyle or undergoing hair transplant surgery.

The Solution: Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) for Women’s Hair Density

At 3D Scalp in Draper, Utah, we performed a customized scalp micropigmentation treatment for thinning hair. Tiny pigment impressions were carefully placed throughout the thinning areas to replicate the appearance of natural hair follicles underneath her existing longer hair.

Rather than creating a shaved-head appearance, the goal was to darken the visible scalp and create the illusion of greater hair density beneath the hair. The pigment was customized to complement her natural hair color, skin tone, and existing growth pattern.

The Results: Fuller-Looking Hair & Reduced Scalp Visibility

After treatment, the contrast between the client’s scalp and existing hair was significantly reduced. The added SMP density helped the thinning areas appear fuller while allowing her to continue wearing her hair long.

The result is subtle and natural—the scalp simply becomes less noticeable, creating the appearance of thicker, denser hair.

Key Treatment Benefits

  • Increased Appearance of Hair Density: Creates the illusion of more hair beneath existing longer hair.

  • Reduced Scalp Visibility: Helps camouflage areas where thinning hair exposes the scalp.

  • Natural-Looking Follicle Effect: Tiny pigment impressions mimic the appearance of real hair follicles.

  • Works With Existing Hair: Designed to blend underneath longer hairstyles rather than replace them.

  • Non-Surgical Hair Loss Solution: Improves the appearance of thinning hair without hair transplant surgery.
